The four-day seminar organised in the city of Tashkent on 16–19 May for the specialists of the relevant ministries and agencies of the republic within the European Commission’s Technical Assistance and Information Exchange (TAIEX PI) project has concluded its work. The event was organised in cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the “Uzbekcosmos” agency, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space (DG DEFIS) and the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan.
Within the event, experts from Spain, France and Romania took part with presentations on the direction of space research and on expanding the use of space data and services in growing agricultural products.
On the first day of the event, two major projects of the European Space Agency were presented — the European global navigation system (known as “Galileo”) and the Earth observation programme “Copernicus”.
Specialists of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the “Uzbekcosmos” agency also gave presentations on the state of the application of remote sensing and geoinformation technologies in the republic and on the projects being implemented.
Within the event, it was also envisaged to hold bilateral meetings to study the needs of the specialists of the republic’s ministries and agencies in training, technical assistance and knowledge exchange.
The knowledge gained during the seminar can be used in the following areas:
– increasing the effectiveness of specialists’ use of digital and geoinformation technologies,
– improving the system of processing remote sensing data,
– working with the geodata base,
– creating relevant analytical data for decision-making.
At the end of the event, the participants thanked the European experts and proposed holding such meetings regularly.
